Economist at the Department of Economics and Finance of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he currently teaches Economic History and Applied Economics.

He published in leading journals in the field of economic history, economic geography and regional economics. He contributed extensively to the statistical reconstruction and analysis of various historical aggregates of the Italian economy, including annual time series of industrial value added disaggregated by sector and region (a result of a long-term project sponsored by the Bank of Italy), regional literacy rates by gender, and the early development of the railway network.
