Professor of Economic History and Director of the Institute of Economics at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa.
His main research field is the study of the role played by science and technology in the emergence and consolidation of modern economic growth with a particular focus on the Industrial Revolution in England and the early industrialization of Italy. He has also studied the connection between patents and inventive activities both in historical and contemporary contexts. His research papers have been published in a wide range of international journals in the fields of economic history and economics of innovation.
